No visit to South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia is complete without a trip to see the Queensland Theatre Company. The professional acting group has been performing for the locals and tourists alike for four decades, with the 2011 productions being the 40th Anniversary Season.

The current production is “Grimm Tales,” disguised as stories from the Grimm Brothers, suggesting alternative outcomes for traditional versions of “Rumpelstiltskin,” “Snow White,” and “Hansel and Gretel.” A humorous view of realty within the fantasy is the final result of the adaptations by the famed acting group. A visit to see the Queensland Theatre Company will be a great family outing. Staged at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in South Brisbane, the production will run until December 11, 2010.

The 40th Anniversary Season schedule will be a great lineup of standard plays, along with that special Queensland Theatre Company twist. Beginning with “Sacre Bleu,” other stage shows will include “Pygmalion,” “Treasure Island,” “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” and “No Man’s Land.” The closing play is a co-production with the Sydney Theatre Company written by Harold Pinter. It focuses on two gentlemen from different levels of life sharing stories over glasses of Scotch about the paths and lessons learned in each journey. It is an excellent choice for the closing play, highlighting wit, wisdom, and of course, comedy.

For local fans of the stage troupe, season tickets are also available at the Queensland Theatre Company website www.qldtheatreco.com.au.

Queensland Theatre Company is the state’s flagship professional theatre company, established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament.
